  • The document is a summary of an onsite solvent recovery research project and it results. This study evaluated the product quality, waste reduction/pollution prevention, and economic aspects of three technologies for onsite solvent recovery: atmospheric batch distillation, vacuum heat-pump distillation, and low-emission vapor degreasing. The chemicals underwent physical and chemical tests to see if the quality of the solvent was acceptable for use in specific applications.

  • This guide describes cleaner technologies that can enable plant process and system design engineers to evaluate cleaner technology options for existing plants and proposed new metal finishing operations.   • This document is intended as a guide for Federal facility managers in the use of pollution prevention tools to reduce their waste generation and emission or release rates in order to meet compliance objectives. The document includes valuable information pertaining to pollution prevention opportunity assessments, training and outreach, energy conservation and efficiency, cost/benefit analysis, life-cycle costing, total cost assessment, life-cycle analysis, and pollution prevention program planning.

Demonstration of Alternative Cleaning Systems. Office of Research and Development. EPA/600/R-95/120. August 1995.

  • This report represents the first demonstration of cleaner technologies to support the goals of EPA's 33/50 Program. It focuses on substitutes for solvent degreasing processes that eliminate the use of chlorinated organic chemicals in the automotive parts industry. The document discusses the following substitute technologies: 1) aqueous wash system, 2) a no-clean technology, and 3) a hot water wash system. Technical, environmental, and economic evaluations were performed and each method was evaluated thoroughly for its environmental impact. Appendices include key contact information as well as useful information resources.
